The World Bank Legal Internship Program enables people to take fresh views, creative thoughts and recent study experiences into the day-to-day activities of the World Bank and enhance their legal abilities while working in a multicultural setting.

Both programs aim to provide you with first-hand experience of the World Bank’s day-to-day activities by working closely with LEGVPU employees. Working directly with excellent and inspirational development experts as part of their team You will have the opportunity to contribute to the legal services provided by LEGVPU and to take part in high-profile activities and meetings during your internship term. Three times the internship is provided A year at World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C. for a maximum of three months. And in some chosen country offices for law school learners presently registered.

Practitioners are likely to be engaged in a multitude of duties as they occur during the duration of the Practice Program, such as:

  • Performing a range of legal tasks under the supervising lawyer(s) direction.
  • Conducting research on assigned problems, using current law documents and alternative sources (e.g. internet-based computer-assisted searches, intranet and/or other databases), analyzing data and summing up results.
  • Conduct comparative legal analyzes on a range of problems in a specified region, identify legal and policy issues, investigate relevant precedents, and propose suitable alternatives.
  • Participate with the supervising lawyer(s) in task / project teams.
  • Assisting in the preparation and organization of conferences and meetings.
  • Performing ad hoc assignments as requested by the supervising lawyer(s).

 

Eligibility

  • Applicants should hold any IBRD member state’s citizenship
  • Are registered in an LLB, JD, LLM, SJD, PhD or similar program?
  • Have good command of the English language
  • Applicants with decent command of a second language shall be given preference, especially if it is one of the working languages of the IBRD (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
  • Applications are similarly motivated from eligible global as well as U.S .- based learners.
